due to unforseen circumstances I somewhat recently found myself no longer having access to a sewing machine and serger, and I would really like to get out and reassert my fashion creativity
the catch is I have no idea where to even start looking for a shiny new machine

They will be able to tell you exactly what you need for the level of skill you have.
I bought both my sewing machines and my serger from them and continue to have them serviced there. Some people have had extraordinary luck with the cheaper Singers and Brother machines sold at JoAnns/Target/Walmart too so if youre on a budget you can always look there. Oh, and keep your eye out for sales :)
